bout Time was founded by Toby Lord and born from a lifelong passion. Like so many of us, Toby grew up captivated by the magic of historical adventure. From the swashbuckling classics of the silver screen to the great epics of modern cinema, it wasn't simply the stories that fascinated him, but the worlds they brought to life.
That fascination led to a career spanning theatre, film, swordfighting, horsemanship and, most importantly, history.
For almost twenty years, Toby has worked in historical interpretation, bringing the past to life for audiences at some of Britain's most popular historic sites. Along the way, he developed an appreciation for the importance of historical authenticity, combined with the power of performance and storytelling to capture an audience's imagination. Sometimes, without even realising it, an audience could find itself, to borrow a phrase – beautifully tricked into “learning with a laugh”.
So, About Time was born.
We believe that history should be every bit as engaging as the stories it inspires. That the extraordinary worlds we encounter through film, television and literature become even more fascinating when we're invited to look a little closer.
